Review of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

A ring to rule them ...
The fantasy world created by the brilliant mind of JRR Tolkien has won both the world of film, video game universe is real pearls. Setting aside for a moment the masterful film trilogy directed by Peter Jackson (who also direct the prequel The Hobbit), we talk about what are the best productions in the field of video games set in the now famous Middle-earth. After three tie-in dedicated to movies, our PC and console video games were able to taste a variety of strategic firsthand how the War of the Ring or The Battle for Middle-earth to the role-playing games like Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, and even with the excellent MMORPG Lord of the Rings Online (now Free 2 Play). So the productions there, and here is that EA offers the public a new videogame interpretation of Middle-earth with The Northern War. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is proposed as an interesting action RPG with a fun co-op ...

My tesssoro
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is developed following the narrative thread of the three films. But the story does not trace the famous Fellowship of the Ring, but will focus on a new "dream team" of warriors with the sole purpose of distracting the armies of Sauron and allow Frodo to Mount Doom advanced. The heroes are three selectable: Eradan the Dunedain rangers, Farin the dwarf of Erebor and Mrs. Andriel knowledge of Rivendell. Our heroes find themselves facing a threat from inside the walls of Mordor: his name is Agandaur, a fully human face to the "dark side" of troops and general Orc Sauron. To address Agandaur our three heroes visit the famous places of Middle Earth that we've been able to enjoy thanks to the movie trilogy. Each place offers diverse environments from each other, new types of enemies and boss fight ever more complex to make the experience much more difficult.
The plot, however, only partially succeeds in capturing the attention of the player. Only true fans of the books or films will appreciate more the strand narrative proposed by the guys at Snowblind, not particularly original.
Action RPG in Middle Earth
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North using the shell of a system coupled to a component typically RPG Action. The peculiarities of the RPG title reside in the possibility to increase the features of our character after gaining experience points. Level we climbed through the screen of our character, increase stats ranging from strength to dexterity. In accordance with our game at will modify each parameter. Beyond the statistics for each level achieved will be increased by one point a certain skill such as learning combos for melee combat and new skills for shooting from a distance with bows, crossbows or spells. During our travels in Middle Earth we run into a huge number of enemies, thanks to them not only useful to get experience points to level up but we can "pick up" new weapons, armor, potions or ammo for ranged weapons as well as happens for every self-respecting RPG. Objects can also be found in secret areas of the map, or hiding in trunks Dúnedain. The combat system allows utlizzare the mouse as the only device in the attacks, with the left button utlizzeremo the weapon equipped. Taking for example the sword with the left button sferreremo rapid light attacks, but while we go right to hit with more ferocity. With the mouse wheel to scroll through the weapon we can that is primary to your secondary rod, bow or crossbow. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North to the place you work alongside game systems similar to the productions Bethesda (Skyrim in particular) relies on a much more linear. The quests will be carried out in levels "closed" without the ability to move freely in open spaces. The only sections that you can bring something to the genre are certainly open world cities: from Bree to Rivendell, the player can move through the streets calling blacksmiths or merchants to prepare for the next mission.
The longevity came at good levels, but is considered too high replay value due to the possibility of addressing the entire adventure with two friends. The cooperative has been well implemented, especially in the console versions that will allow even local multiplayer experience for the PC version but unfortunately this is only the online mode.
Graphics and sound
The graphics of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North came at good levels. The details of the characters are decent, but the same can not be said of the locations where they begin to appear much too low resolution texture detail is generally ruining the production. Good but the soundtrack and dubbed in Italian, even if a little criticism to be made: it would have been much more pleasant to hear the voice actors of the official character of the trilogy.
In conclusion
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North is a good role-playing game that uses the famous setting of Middle Earth. Recommended primarily for fans of the Tolkien saga of the game is not without flaws accomplice in a plot unoriginal, a gaming system too linear and the graphics is not right at the top. Worth noting is the excellent co-op mode that will allow additional hours of fun with their friends.
